Honouring Dedication: National Service Medals Awarded to Four TGHNSLSC Members

Author: Kerrie Moore

At Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club (TGHNSLSC), we are proud to celebrate the dedication and service of our volunteer lifesavers. This year, four of our exceptional members have been awarded the National Medal, a prestigious honour within the Australian Honours System.

Congratulations to Phillip Daniel, Stuart Daniel, Craig Young, and John Estens, who have each demonstrated an outstanding commitment to protecting and assisting our community.

National Medal Presentation

Recognising Years of Service

The National Medal is awarded to individuals who have dedicated at least 15 seasons of active lifesaving service, with a minimum of 30 patrolling hours per season. It acknowledges those who risk their lives to protect others, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters.

Originally established in 1975 as a military honour, the National Medal has since become Australia’s most awarded civil medal, now recognising lifesavers, emergency responders, and public safety personnel. It is awarded on behalf of the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency General the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC.

The Impact of Our ‘Fabulous Four’

The contributions of Phillip, Stuart, Craig, and John are nothing short of extraordinary:

  • Total Number of Combined SLS Seasons: 79 seasons
  • Total Number of Patrol Hours Administered: 5,235 hours (excluding other roles and responsibilities within the club)
  • Total Number of Awards Earned: 227 awards

Their unwavering commitment to saving lives, mentoring new lifesavers, and strengthening our club has helped shape TGHNSLSC into what it is today.

A Well-Deserved Recognition

This prestigious award is a testament to the years of selfless service, dedication, and passion these members have given to surf lifesaving. Their impact is felt not only within our club but across the wider community.

We invite all members and supporters to congratulate Phillip, Stuart, Craig, and John on their National Medal achievements—a recognition that is truly deserved.
