NSWSLS Rescue of the Month
Author: Kerrie Moore
At Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club (TGHNSLSC), our patrol members dedicate themselves to ensuring the safety of beachgoers, and their skills were put to the ultimate test on 21st December 2024. On this day, a mass rescue of 12 people was carried out with precision, teamwork, and the highest level of professionalism—an effort that has now been officially recognised as NSWSLS Rescue of the Month.
A Lifesaving Effort in Action
The rescue was executed by Flippers Fab patrol team and other dedicated club members who were present on the day. Working together, Phillip Daniel, Luke Rochester, Max Fortunaso, Jack Alterator, Anna Fortunaso, Gingerlily Shelton, and Emily Klocker, supported by the Flippers Fab team, coordinated their efforts to safely bring all swimmers to shore.
This incredible feat highlighted the importance of vigilance, rapid response, and structured teamwork—key principles at the core of our training. Each member played a critical role in ensuring a successful outcome, and their ability to assess and act in a high-pressure situation demonstrates the exceptional standard of surf lifesaving at TGHNSLSC.
Formal Recognition from Surf Life Saving NSW
Following the event, Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSNSW) formally commended the patrol team, acknowledging their dedication, skill, and unwavering commitment to public safety. As TGHNSLSC Club Captain Wayne Bower stated:
“This was a well-coordinated mass rescue with the patrol team members each playing their part, resulting in a successful outcome.”
The recognition reflects not only the bravery of our members but also the rigorous training and teamwork that ensures we are prepared for any situation.

A Moment to Celebrate
We are incredibly proud of our patrol team for their outstanding lifesaving efforts. Their actions serve as a reminder of the critical role that surf lifesaving plays in protecting our community.
Please join us in congratulating these remarkable members for their dedication and well-earned recognition!
